This event was another opportunity for Toastmasters to make a contribution to our community while practicing and expanding their communication and leadership skills.

AIR CADET DEBATE

May 1, 2011

The AIR CADET LEAGUE OF CANADA (Ontario Provincial Committee) held its 8th Annual Debating Competition at Mohawk College in Hamilton.

Once again, a number of Toastmasters from different clubs volunteered to be judges. This competition incorporated the Oxford debating format which closely resembles parliamentary procedures.

Enthused with a "duty to clash", eighteen teams of air cadets sparred over prepared and impromptu resolutions with facts and techniques.

Participating Toastmasters were Tony Bratschitsch (far left in photo) of Valley Town Toastmasters, Dundas, Maureen Dobbie (Hamilton TSO), Peter Maxymuik (Midday Marauders, Hamilton) and David Harfield (Ambitious City, Hamilton).

Pictured in the far right of the photo is Head Judge Captain Marilyn Coleman.

DEBATE COMPETITION

It was an incredible experience to be involved in the 7th Annual AIR CADET LEAGUE OF CANADA Debating Contest held at Mohawk College in Hamilton on Sunday, May 2, 2010.

18 squadrons from Southern Ontario were represented in this highly competitive and well prepared clash for debate superiority.

Nearly 100 cadets were trained to participate as debaters, moderators and officials in compliance to the Oxford format of rules and procedures.

Three local Toastmasters were privileged to act as judges: Peter Maxymuik, DTM, of Midday Marauders Toastmasters, Area 53 Governor Geneva Neale, ACG, and Tony Bratschitsch, ACB, CL of Valley Town Toastmasters.

Tony is pictured above with members of 150 Squadron and 540 Squadron and was a co-judge with Major Greg Merrill (Ret.), P.Eng.
